Premier Rio Mini SUV launched in Petrol variant, priced at Rs 4.7 lakh

Just when the petrol prices have ripped apart many wallets, Premier Auto has launched a petrol version of its Mini SUV, the Rio in India. Call this a bad timing, but Premier Auto, which came in with its diesel version of the Rio about a couple of years ago, was contemplating of launching a petrol version of the SUV in India for quite some time now.
It can be recalled that Premier Auto, during the launch of the diesel version of Rio had said that it was bringing in a petrol variant soon into India. While the diesel Premier Rio is a BS III complaint, the petrol version of the SUV is BS IV compliant. This certainly means that the city dwellers can look into the Rio petrol as an option while going car hunting. The petrol version of the Rio is priced at Rs. 4.7 lakhs (Ex-showroom Delhi). The petrol Rio is cheaper than the diesel variant by about Rs. 60,000.
The Premier Rio SUV features a 1.2 Liter, naturally aspirated MPFI petrol engine, which pumps out 75 bhp of power and 104 Nm of torque. The Petrol Rio is one of the lightest SUVs around with a kerb weight of 1,080 kgs, about 65 kgs lesser that its diesel counterpart. This again reflects in the fuel economy. As far as the transmission is concerned, the Rio uses the same 5-speed manual transmission that does duty in the diesel variant. The Premier Rio SUV is available in four variants namely EX, DX, LX and GLX.
